Join the Zumba Craze: Behind the Scene Interview with a Certified Instructor!

June 30, 2010

Today’s deal at Samadhi gets you an entire month of unlimited group fitness classes for only $40, one being Zumba, the hottest new fitness craze. Check out an interview below with 21 year old Katie Sullivan, a certified Zumba instructor and senior at Endicott College, who gives you a behind-the-scene sneak peek into the class…

CoupMe: So, how would you best describe Zumba?

KS: I would say it’s a Latin Inspired fitness workout that combines a lot of core strengthening and overall cardio…it’s a dance party practically, with a new routine for every song!

CoupMe: What got you into the latest craze?

KS: Well, personally it was the dancing aspect for me. I like working out in general but the fact that every song you can make the moves your own is great. It’s awesome because you don’t even feel like you’re working out but you’re actually burning tons of calories!

CoupMe: How long have you been teaching?

KS: Just a year now. I decided to teach because I knew it was a big craze and a lot of people didn’t know about it. People won’t go to other classes because they feel it’s too hard or too repetitive but Zumba was such a hit. Even people who haven’t ever danced…you definitely don’t have to be a dancer to try it!

CoupMe: Why do you (or the people who take your class) love it so much?

KS: Well, they say they love it because it’s such a different workout for them. They can come with a big group of friends and just have fun with it!

CoupMe: Do you feel better after you take a  class?

KS:  Oh ya! Personally as the teacher, I come out of there feeling great because everyone loves it, comes out with a smile and is always laughing. That really makes me feel good! I’ve also definitely noticed an improvement in my energy levels, and realize it’s something people actually want to do!

CoupMe: Who do you recommend try Zumba?

KS: Anyone can do it. I have girls in my class who are 20 years old, and also older women who take it back at home…You definitely don’t have to be in your 20s to try it out!

CoupMe: What are your other group fitness faves?

KS: I like step, kickboxing, and although I don’t do it a lot, I also like yoga for stress relief. But I’m definitely more of a high-energy kind of girl!

Get Your Fruit Fix: Summer in a Cup!

June 29, 2010

I don’t know about you, but when summer hits all I want to eat is fruit, fruit and well, more fruit. After a long day of work and a sweaty commute home, I can’t even think about firing up the oven to cook a gourmet meal for myself. My teeny tiny, AC-lacking apartment is HOT enough as is. And being a creative foodie myself, I’m a little embarrassed to admit that many of my “meals” the past few weeks have consisted of fruit: fruit salad, fruit ‘n’ yogurt, fruit smoothies, fruit with oatmeal, etc., etc.

So when I saw today’s deal at Jumpin’ Juice & Java, I literally jumped out of my seat. Fresh fruit juices, smoothies, speciality coffees, wraps and salads…Seriously, could a girl ask for anything more? Their Pink Passion smoothie (with OJ, strawberries, and banana) is the perfect morning pick-me-up, and their Sweet Dream frappe (with peanut butter, chocolate, milk and banana) could make any peanut-butter addict melt with joy. Need a little boost on a rough day in the office? Guzzle down their frozen Mocha java smoothie with espresso and chocolate…Mmm. Need some nosh to go with all that liquid? Choose a healthy Strawberry Spinach Salad, Veggie Wrap on wheat, or Caprese Panini with mozzarella and sun-dried tomatoes on herb focaccia.

Seriously, my stomach is growling in the office as I write. If yours is too, you can purchase your CoupMe NOW for a light, healthy meal of your very own-just $5 for $10 worth of  food ‘n’ drinks. Hurry up while the price is hot…

And while you’re at it, check out Jumpin’ Juice & Java’s up and coming new website and menu at!

Hurray for the Weekend!

June 25, 2010

TGIF! Friday is officially here, and you  know what that means: no alarms, sleeping in, dinner dates, cute outfits and lots of drinks, just to name a few. Weekends only last for so long, so I like to make the most of the little time I get, as I’m sure you do as well. While sometimes it’s tempting to resort to my bed for the entire of the weekend, it’s so000 much more fun to go out in the city and see what Boston has to offer!

I started my weekend a tad early this week and splurged on some delectable take out sushi from Gari with my roommates. While it’s fun to get dolled up for a night out, it was nice to stay in for once and share tasty eats and some good laughs (in our PJs). Tonight, on the other hand, we’ll be taking on the city by storm, looking for a good mix of class, sophistication, and fun!. Saturday will probably consist of some solid shopping (who doesn’t love new shoes and great sales), and Happy Hour of course. Sunday is then dedicated to R&R, a movie in, and the monotonous laundry task (blah). Then it’s back to the work week once again, and just like that the weekend’s over in a snap.

What are your favorite places to go out in Boston? We want to know, if you could construct your dream weekend, where would you go, what would you, and who would you bring?  Comment below on this thread!

It’s just plain unfair (and cruel). Well, we thought so too! That’s why we’ve expanded to four additional regions, keeping you Beantown souls happy while also spreading the love to other areas as well. Hey, we all deserve a little CoupMe after all.

Our big launch occurred yesterday morning, as we surprised our subscribers (whom we love so much) with an additional four great deals in North of Boston, South of Boston, Worcester area and Metro West. Day in the Life of a Hot Yoga Newbie

June 7, 2010

So the other day, I took my very first Bikram Yoga class. Sure I’ve done yoga before. . . but in a normal temperature room, in the dark, for only an hour. But Bikram Yoga (“Hot Yoga”) in a 105-degree room, with 26 poses and 2 breathing exercises for 90 minutes straight? Never would I even dare think about it. However, once taking a class last Friday, my opinion has changed drastically. I think I found a new love, a new hobby. What can I say. . . I am officially hooked on Hot Yoga.

When I first entered the studio, I was a little bit intimidated by all the pros that surrounded me. They all looked so fit, flexible and experienced! What are they going to think of me? I can’t even balance on one leg sometimes for more than 10 seconds. However, my nerves disappeared as soon as the class began. Within moments, I found myself attempting all of the poses, breathing through my nose, and concentrating on my posture intently in the mirror. Sure, I fell a few times and couldn’t do some of the crazy back-bends, or stretch my leg quite far as the rest of the class. But the most important thing was that I tried, I didn’t give up, and I stayed in the room throughout the entire 90 minutes. I realized no one was looking at me anyway; everyone was concentrating on their own body and goals, as yoga is a private practice for you and only you.

When the class ended, I laid exasperated on my mat for a good 5 minutes. When I got up, I have never felt so amazing. My mind felt clear, my body felt healthy, and I was filled with an amazing energy, ready to start my morning the right way! I didn’t even need my morning cup of coffee to get me going; that’s how much of a high I got from the yoga class. All I know is that I’m hooked and am definitely going to buy today’s CoupMe, getting me (and you) 21 days at Bikram Yoga Boston for only $20! A plus? It’s good for all 3 locations: Financial District, Back Bay and Harvard Square!
