It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (Plus Places to Play with Your Pup)

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood indeed, especially because today is the start of a new road for CoupMe. As you know CoupMe already brings you the best restaurants, spas, salons and events in areas near you. But as of today, we’re going to dig a little deeper into your specific neighborhood, so you can find something that’s just a walk or a T ride away. Your go-to cafe? That local hair salon you’ve been dying to try that you walk by every day on your commute to work? Yup, that’s what you’ll find on our site.

For our big launch, we’re featuring Arlington, the lovely neighborhood in Eastern Massachusetts. Whether you’re a savvy, young professional, student, or busy parent, we know you love a good deal every once in a while…especially when it’s just a block away from your apartment. If Arlington is your area, then boy are you in luck today. And if not, at least read on for places to engage with your pooch around the city…in Arlington and beyond!

One of our favorite CoupMe deals in today’s bunch is a serious discount at Arlington’s Picture Perfect PetsEven if your dog has taken a class before, there’s always behavior to work on, and bringing him to a class also helps keep him socialized and mentally active. You’ve also got the option to try something new and exciting on a cold winter day: pet photography! I took advantage of the great deal Picture Perfect Pets is offering and had my own shoot, and let me tell you, it was 100% worth it! Their unanimous 5-star Yelp reviews and countless other local awards don’t lie: Bette Yip’s studio is the place to go for both training and pet photos.

If you’re in the Boston/Brookline area and want to get Fido some fun off-leash time, check out the Brookline Avenue Playgound. From November to March, all hours are open to the dogs, and from April-October, your canine buddies are welcome from dawn to 1 pm. The park spans 4 acres and is entirely fenced in– and there’s always metered parking along the street.

If Rover’s a bit more frisky, have you considered some outdoor classes? Jamaica Plain’s MSPCA/Angell organization offers a variety of educational opportunities for your pup, including agility. Agility’s great for, well, agile dogs who are also super energetic and intelligent. The classes teach you to handle your dog on courses with dog walks, tunnels, poles, and other obstacles, which is great exercise for them and also demands that they focus and follow your cues. It’s a great bonding experience!

[Note: if you’re a bit closer to the Cambridge/Somerville/Medford areas, check out Canine University in Malden for indoor agility and other informative training classes.]

Find yourself with some extra time to drive, or are you located in MetrowestWellesley College and Elm Bank are two impeccably maintained, scenic dog-friendly destinations. Both allow dogs on leash at any time during the year. Elm Bank also hosts many community-friendly events, such as antique shows and farmers’ markets, where your pooch is welcome to roam the grounds with you in certain areas.

Go forth and enjoy your time with your dog! Boston really does offer a myriad of dog-friendly stuff to do. Please share any of your favorite pet-friendly activities here as well!

 Cheers,

~Allison, CoupMe
